My relationship with homework
I learned to read when I was 3, so school was never a big problem for me and my parents until I struggled with math in grade school. I’m also the firstborn, and my parents were both working, so I had to do my homework by myself, with no one to help me most of the time. And it all paid off - I was valedictorian in kinder, salutatorian in prep, and consistent honor student in grade school (this is the time to brag, because I lost all my ~mojo~ in high school). When I started slacking off and seeing that it does have a direct impact on my grades, that was when I realized that doing what you’re supposed to do will actually yield favorable results.
Homework, more than being a tool for students to understand their lessons and such, teaches them to be responsible. Kids these days already HAVE IT EASY, for chrissakes. EVERYONE has access to the fucking INTERNET, which makes everyone’s lives fucking EASIER. Parents don’t even have to buy complete volumes of Encyclopaedia Britannica anymore because there’s a CD already; poor families can spare prolly P10 for half an hour of net surfing at the nearest net cafe. Homework not only motivates children to excel in school, it also makes them realize the value of actually understanding what they’re taught. What’s the point in going to school if you can’t apply what you learn, right? What’s so wrong with spending a few hours of your two-day break working on long division or prepositions or whatever?
Sure, the No Homework Policy only applies to public schools, but isn’t that even more appalling? Those children are in public schools for a reason, okay. Their parents can’t afford to give them the quality education they prolly want. Letting them get off the hook is like robbing them of the only thing that will set them apart from the rest of the other 60 children in their class who choose to spend their time playing outside instead of reading up on adverbs or habitats.
NO HOMEWORK is wrong, LESS HOMEWORK is forgivable. Anyone who regards homework as a bad thing is omgwtfbbq. Kids have no excuse to not get shit done anymore, okay. What the hell are you thinking? Also, to please not forget our problems re: textbooks and classrooms and lack of teachers; don’t you think you should be working your asses off to settle that shit instead of coming up with these bullshit resolutions that will result to an entire generation of uneducated and irresponsible monsters? REALLY.
